Plantation
Drive-In
2904 Pruden Blvd. (US 460 west), Suffolk, Va.
capacity: 400-500 cars
years of operation: 1949-7?
currently: lot now covered with new growth of
pine trees, and several mounds of old tires (11/97)
The Plantation was founded by Cecil Houck, who previously started the Stockade Auto-Torium in Williamsburg. Like the Stockade, its design was in keeping with its name -- the screen tower, which faced the highway, was built to resemble a Southern colonial mansion, complete with pillars and dormer windows.

the drive-in and surrounding area.
Click here to see a 1994 aerial photo showing the
outline of the drive-in and its ramp pattern, which can still be
made out through the trees -- barely.
