Oak Drive-In
1500 W. Danville St. (US 1/58 west, across from former airport),
South Hill, Va.
capacity: 102 cars
years of operation: 1950-87
currently: vacant, reverting to woodland
In 1987, new management attempted to rescue this drive-in, which had resorted to running XXX fare full-time, by installing an FM sound system and returning it to a mainstream format; sadly, they failed, and it became a flea market for a short time thereafter before going fallow.
Below is part of a 1967 aerial photo showing the drive-in. It appears a snack bar was later built at the eastern edge of the lot, which according to Google Maps is still standing amongst woods.
