Opened by Clyde O. Childress as the Midlothian Drive-In on June 11, 1947, with the Bowery Boys comedy Mr. Hex. It changed name to the Dixie Drive-In in 1949, and again to Sunset in 1952. If some accounts are to be believed, this was the site of a pre-World War II drive-in called Open Air Movies.
