Sunset Drive-In
Midlothian Turnpike (US 60 west) at Buford Rd., Richmond, Va.
known years of operation: 1947-73
currently: commercial development including office complex; Strange's garden center (originally an Arthur Treacher's) occupies screen site

Opened by Clyde O. Childress as the Midlothian Drive-In on June 11, 1947, with the Bowery Boys comedy Mr. Hex. It changed name to the Dixie Drive-In in 1949, and again to Sunset in 1952. If some accounts are to be believed, this was the site of a pre-World War II drive-in called Open Air Movies.

Below is part of a 1968 aerial photo showing the drive-in.
