Culpeper
Drive-In
Brandy Rd. (US 15/business) at VA 666, east of Culpeper, Va.
years of operation: 1951-86
currently: Craftsman Auto Body
Opened as the Pitts Drive-In; changed name in 1970 after the Pitts
Circuit merged with R/C Theatres. Pitts also owned and operated
the downtown State Theatre.
"Oh how I miss the old Culpeper Drive-In. I sold the last ticket on the very last night it was open. I worked for R/C Theatres from 1980-1999 and was lucky enough to work at all the theatres in Culpeper VA. The end of the drive-in came when the speakers were removed and FM radio sound was put in. I used to go around after the movies and jump start all the cars with failed batteries. Thanks for your wonderful website!" -- Doug George, Madison, VA
