Auto View Drive-In
Richmond-Hopewell Highway (VA 10, now Hundred Rd.) just off US 1 east of Chester, Va.
known year of operation: 1941

Just recently brought to my attention was this drive-in which may turn out to have been the Richmond area's first. The earliest ads I've found for it are from October 1941; then came Pearl Harbor and World War II, and like a few drive-ins of that period it went idle (presumably due to gasoline and other shortages) and never returned. Another Auto-View opened in Highland Springs shortly after the war ended, but it's unknown whether the same folks were behind it.
