Mason-Dixon Drive-In
National Pike (US 40) at Mason-Dixon Dragway, 6 miles southeast of
Hagerstown, Md.
capacity: 300 cars
year of operation: 2003
currently: moved to Prince George's Stadium in Bowie,
Md. from 2004-05 (see Bowie Baysox Drive-In); location for 2006 TBA
The digital drive-in concept pioneered by American Family Entertainment, LLC made its debut here, in the south parking area of the dragway, on July 18, 2003. The first new drive-in to appear in the state in 35 years, it was intended as a temporary operation pending the construction of nearby Bumpers Drive-In (although it nearly became permanent itself). Its picturesque setting was in the shadow of drive-in history: Family Recreation Center, across the road, had been the site of Hiway Drive-In. The dragway's addition of night races for the 2004 season made assembling a movie schedule untenable, and the operation was moved to Bowie.
